Priyadarshini Thakur is a Commerce graduate who made a mark in the corporate world. The transition into education field was not by choice but a necessity. With the untimely demise of her husband Anil Kumar Thakur in 2021 who established Anish Junior College and Degree College with strength of 800 plus students, there was no choice but to take over the reins.

Priyadarshini says, “I managed teams and had the experience but it did take me a few months to understand the nitty-gritty of managing a college. Every day is a new day and the demands of the students and parents are many. My husband left a rich legacy and I have to take it forward.”

One of the first decisions she took was to allow the women lecturers to wear salwar suit too instead of a saree. “Being a woman I understand every second during the morning hour counts as women have to also complete household chores and rush to work.”

Speaking about leadership she says that empathy comes naturally to women but they can also be firm in decision making.

The teaching and learning process has changed over the years and technology plays a major role. Artificial Intelligence is going to paly a huge role. Priyadarshini says, “My husband had a vision and he would always talk about moving ahead. We introduced Business Analytics and from the next academic year we plan to start a course in multimedia.” She further adds, “Skill based education is the need of the hour and we wish to arm our students with life skills. We ensure that ample opportunities are given. Saturday is marked for extra and co-curricular activities. We have a state-of-the-art auditorium that can seat 300 plus people and all out students are given access.”

The importance of soft skills is even more in the present times says Priyadarshini who has interviewed scores of people during her corporate career. “Managing, having good communication skills and making decisions, critical thinking and time management are crucial to succeed and we want our students to be ready for not just a corporate career but to even become entrepreneurs.”

What is the goal for the next five years, we ask. “My husband had a dream to have KG to PG. I am now working towards starting a pre-primary school and at the same time start PG courses,” she says as she signs off.
