The new change that Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has implemented from now on is, without proper procedure & reason, it will no longer allow class X & class XII to change their subject.

The board has instructed, ‘not to entertain any request from students to change their subjects in classes X or XII on account of parents or students making their own study arrangements’, in its affiliated schools. On dealing with such requests, the board now has framed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that would guide schools.

The Board said the schools have to counsel students in class IX & XI into opting subjects which they are interested to continue studying in the next class and are also available in the school.

A senior board official said that as per revised norms, any request for change of subjects will only be accepted provided such a request is made before July 15th of the academic session. The board has also framed SOPs to streamline such process.

As per the SOPs which dictate that a student or a parent need to submit a subject-change request along with required documents that must support the reason for subject-change.
