On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Brainfeed took the opportunity to recognize the efforts of twenty exceptional women leaders in the field of education. We featured them in our cover story “Women Edupreneurs” of March 2023 edition of the Brainfeed Magazine. These women leaders focused and strived for creating a positive ecosystem at their workplace that helped other women in contributing to their fullest and ushering in the much needed change. Each one of these women educational entrepreneurs shared what it took them to successfully complete their entrepreneurial journey during which they have explored and found new identities for themselves and other women working with them.

The emphasis on asking questions for the purpose of progress highlights the school’s focus on fostering 21st century skills such as creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. By allowing students to ask questions and engage in discussions, SSVM Bangalore is helping them develop the ability to think independently and find innovative solutions to complex problems. At the helm is Lakshmi Y L, M.Sc. Mathematics with twenty years of teaching experience. She has taught Engineering and MBA students and conducts workshops for in-house teachers’. For last nine years, she is the Director of six SSVM Institutions at Bengaluru. Mrs Lakshmi says, “Critical thinking has to be fostered in this day and age. Students need to develop a mindset to solve problems.”

SSVM Bangalore is known for promoting an open and inclusive culture where students, teachers, and staff members are encouraged to ask questions and express themselves freely. This freedom of expression is not just limited to the classroom but extends to all aspects of school life, creating a supportive and collaborative learning environment. Creating an environment for free flow of ideas and asking questions is an important aspect of the educational philosophy of SSVM Bangalore, and it contributes to the overall growth and development of its students. Since inception of SSVM in 1950, classrooms are dynamic and constantly evolving to meet the needs of every generation students, and it is equally important for teachers to have the freedom, respect, and trust to design and implement innovative teaching methods that will engage and challenge their students.

Giving teachers the freedom to innovate and experiment with new teaching methods can lead to a more dynamic and engaging learning environment, where students are motivated and excited to learn. Involving parents in setting expectations and understanding the learning process is also critical. Communication and collaboration between teachers, parents, and students can help to create a supportive environment that fosters student success.

It is important to remember that individual attention and support are important for student learning and growth, but not always possible on a daily basis. However, with a collaborative effort from all stake holders, including teachers, parents, and students, it is possible to create a learning environment that encourages and supports student growth and development.

The growth and development of schools can be subjective and should not be compared to other schools. As each school has its own unique philosophy, approach, and method of teaching, and it is important to understand and appreciate these differences.

Communicating this to parents is important as it helps to manage their expectations and understand the individual strengths and challenges of each school. Overwhelming and unrealistic expectations can be frustrating for both the parents and the school, and can lead to a negative learning experience for the students.

It is important for schools to clearly communicate their goals, teaching methods, and expectations to parents, and to work collaboratively with them to support the growth and development of their children. By fostering open and honest communication, schools can build strong relationships with parents and create a positive learning environment for their students.

Freedom of expression is not just limited to the classroom but extends to all aspects of school life, creating a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
