by admin

The charming village of Franschhoek will again be transformed into a literary hub from Friday 19th – Sunday 21st May 2023, when the Franschhoek Literary Festival celebrates its 16th year since inception. Running for three days, a content-rich programme packed with informal discussions, lively debates, insightful conversations and inspired talks will bring together a cross-section of South African and international authors. Now, Festival-goers have even more time and space to fully embrace the spirit of the weekend. The Franschhoek Literary Festival is excited to announce a new Patron package that has been added to the Membership Programme.

The Franschhoek Literary Festival (FLF) was established in 2007 by a group of literary enthusiasts and volunteers as a non-profit organisation. The three-day festival provides a space for a cross-section of South African and international authors to gather to inspire, delight, inform and challenge audiences. The festival programme is curated for all South Africans and visitors who love to read books. It is attended by a cross section of book lovers, as well as writers, authors, publishers and booksellers. The annual Festival runs for a weekend in May in a variety of village venues, and is preceded by FLF’s Book Reading Festival for Young Readers. With funds raised from sponsors, two membership programmes and festival participants more broadly, FLF’s CSI initiative, Franschhoek Reading, helps fund and maintain the FLF school libraries at primary schools in the Franschhoek Valley.

Imagine streets buzzing with book lovers, creating a vibrant ambience as they move between a variety of village venues all within walking distance of each other. The Franschhoek Literary Festival runs annually on the third weekend in May, starting on Friday and ending Sunday. The FLF provides a platform for open and progressive discourse with participation from renowned local and international authors and thought leaders. Informal discussions are the hallmark of the festival with spirited debates on a variety of topical issues. Not forgetting the lighter, inspirational and fun sessions guaranteed to stimulate the senses. A storytelling festival, business breakfast, live performances, documentaries and writing workshops complete the excellent offering of the FLF.
