Being a teacher has always been my choice since childhood. While other students used to play different games, and sports, or engage in various activities, I used to play ‘teacher-teacher.’ I believe I am a teacher by choice, not by chance. The journey has been long but insightful and enriching. I have learned a lot and imbibed great wisdom from my fellow teachers and mentors throughout my journey. For me, it has never been just a profession but always a passion.
The journey has had its challenges: some remarkable experiences, occasional triumphs, and even some failures. During my tenure as an educator, I realized that learning has no age; we can remain constant in a learning process only if we are open to newer horizons.
I was born and brought up in Kolkata. I then pursued my career in Gorakhpur, where I was elevated to the post of CBSE Coordinator for the evidence of assessments. Later, I shifted to Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, where I hold the position of Founder Principal at Seth M R Jaipuria School, Goel Campus, and also serve as the Assistant Zone Secretary for Zone 3 Sahodaya of CBSE schools.
As the founder and Principal of four schools, I’ve come to realize that limitations are beneficial as they help you maximize your potential and provide a clear direction for your abilities.
A student’s mind is like a ‘Tabula Rasa,’ a blank slate where educators can impart their knowledge. As an educator, I’ve come to understand the importance of mastering our subjects and staying updated with innovations in pedagogy. Throughout my life, I’ve adhered to the mantra that one’s attitude determines their aptitude. When it comes to decision-making, my principle has always been to gather facts, apply tact, and then take action. There is a vast reservoir of knowledge available to us, and it’s our responsibility to bring together all our skills to foster the holistic development of our students. The role of an educator extends beyond teaching academic content; it encompasses instilling qualities such as resilience, confidence, collaboration, creative thinking, innovation, and problem-solving. A teacher makes a profound impact on the lives of students.
He or she is the role model who is imitated to a certain extent. In my 33 years of experience, I have never felt that my choice was faulty because each phase of my professional career has provided me with a lot. When I look back on this journey, 33 years ago, I never thought that there would be so much to learn and emulate. I am grateful to all the institutions that have helped me grow, and to all my students who have encouraged me to discover my true potential. My heart swells with pride when I look back and see my students well-placed in life. I have learned, unlearned, and relearned – I am still learning from my team, my students, and my fellow educators.
