In order to benefit girl students across the state, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to deposit Rs 1000 in the bank account of girl students it has declared on Friday. This move has been directed to support young women complete higher education without facing financial constraints. This scheme seeks to benefit 6 lakh girls, said Finance Minister Of the state Palanivel Thaiga Rajan. “An amount of Rs 698 crore is allotted for this scheme,” he state during the budget.
All girls from 6-12 would be paid a sum of Rs 1000 until the completion of their Undergraduate courses, diplomas or ITI courses. The scheme will be applicable in addition to other scholarships that the students might fetch.
Girls from rural backgrounds often don’t enrol for higher education, the government has noted. Hence in an attempt to encourage women to take up higher education, the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Memorial Marriage Assistance Scheme has been transformed to Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme the finance minister stated.
Other schemes like Dr. Dharmambal Ammaiyar Memorial Widow Remarriage Assistance Scheme, Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Memorial Inter-Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme, EVR Maniammaiyar Memorial Widow’s Daughter Marriage Assistance Scheme, Annai Teresa Orphan Girls Marriage Assistance Scheme will carry on unhindered.
