The Gujarat government has announced a significant recruitment campaign to hire 7,500 teachers for permanent roles in state-run and grant-in-aid secondary and higher secondary schools. This decision follows recent protests by qualified candidates seeking permanent employment.
On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, government spokesperson and minister Rushikesh Patel confirmed that the vacancies would be filled within the next three months. The recruitment will prioritize candidates who have passed the Teacher Aptitude Test (TAT), a mandatory qualification for teaching positions in these institutions.
Additionally, the state Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, plans to hold a Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for primary school positions soon. This decision is in response to ongoing protests in Gandhinagar.
Rushikesh Patel said that within the next three months, 7,500 teachers will be permanently recruited for secondary and higher secondary and grant-in-aid schools, while emphasizing the focus on merit-based selection for grant-in-aid schools. This will include 3,500 TAT-qualified candidates for secondary schools and 4,000 for higher secondary schools.
