In Gurugram primary students in government schools will learn about ‘good touch-bad touch’ and keeping safe as part of compulsory lessons from the next academic session.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has decided to introduce a dedicated chapter on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for students of classes I to V in the wake of the rising number of crimes against children. The officials said that a proposal has been sent to the state government for approval.
Already in Gurugram, many private schools are holding sessions to help students to differentiate between good and bad touch and also tell them how to respond. Under the POCSO Act, the Gurugram police department registered 140 cases in 2017 and 181 in 2018. The SCERT will also conduct workshops on child and drug abuse apart from the chapter on the POCSO Act.
