A three day seminar will be inaugurated at BHU today by the Prime Minister of our country, Mr Narendra Modi, where the heads of more than 400 institutions are supposed to meet and discuss the implementation of the NEP 2020. The chairman of UGC, Mr M Jagadish Kumar along with the Vice Chancellor of BHU Sudhir K Jain, convened a press conference where they elaborated about the ‘Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam’ or the three day conference that is going to take place from Thursday, 7th July and be inaugurated by the PM himself.

The Chairman of UGC, Mr. Jagadish Kumar stated “Heads of 400 institutions, policymakers, academicians, and heads of regulatory bodies, researchers and many such experts will be participating in the samagam.”

He mentioned further that the event had been divided into eleven sessions, out of which, 9 sessions will have themes assigned to them while the rest of the two will talk about the success of the education system after the implementation of NEP 2020.

“The nine themes will comprise three sets. The first set would include themes on holistic and multidisciplinary education. The second one is research, innovation and entrepreneurship. You all know our country stands third in the world for encouraging research, innovation and entrepreneurship. The third is about governance of our educational system and facility building for teachers so they can adapt to new circumstances with technology. These are the three important themes of the first set,” stated the chairman of UGC.

The second set will talk about the rankings, the quality of education in our universities and their accreditations. The third set will talk about teaching online, digital empowerment and how to make education more accessible.

“In the last three sessions, we will be discussing how to promote Indian languages and Indian knowledge systems. You know because of the colonial effect on our country, we have neglected our Indian languages in the educational system. It is very important that we promote our Indian languages as a medium in higher educational institutions. Experts will discuss what efforts are being made to promote Indian languages in the higher educational system,” the UGC Chairman added.

He went on to state that he hopes for the success of the three day workshop and that all educational institutes benefit from it. He hopes to identify the ‘action based point’ and the outcomes, so that the results can be distributed uniformly across all educational institutions and the NEP can be implemented as early as possible.

The UGC Chairman stated “You all know that the NEP was launched roughly around two years ago. By the end of this month, we will complete two years of the NEP launch. Since then, many things have happened. First is of course creating nationwide awareness about the NEP. A number of webinars and seminars were held. Even though the country was going through a pandemic, colleges rose to the occasion to create a lot of awareness about the NEP.”

He added that the NEP was a great way to ensure India takes the leading spot in terms of education and research worldwide, which is the intention behind the implementation of the NEP.

“In the recent past we have announced many reforms in education like academic bank of credits for providing mobility to the students from one university to another, multi entry and multi exit scheme for students. The basic idea is to provide a lot of flexibility and freedom to students to access high quality education. And in order to do that we have also brought many regulations from UGC,” the UGC Chairman, Mr. M Jagadesh Kumar stated before ending.
