Students from Focus High School in Hyderabad’s Noorkhan Bazar have shown remarkable initiative by pooling their pocket money to support wildlife conservation. Accompanied by their principal and teachers, the students visited Nehru Zoological Park on Friday and handed over a cheque worth Rs 30,000 to adopt a one-horned rhinoceros (also referred to as a greater one-horned or horned rhinoceros) for three months.
The contribution was formally presented to the zoo’s curator, J. Vasantha, who expressed her appreciation for the young contributors’ generosity. She highlighted how the funds will aid the park’s wildlife conservation and breeding efforts. The zoo currently cares for five rhinos named Suraj, Saraswathi, Sai Vijay, Nanda, and Prema.
Vasantha also encouraged more individuals, families, and companies to participate in the Animal Adoption Scheme, which enables sponsors to cover the costs of feeding, care, and maintenance for various zoo animals.
The students’ effort stands out as an inspiring example of how young people can actively contribute to protecting endangered species and raising awareness about environmental responsibility.
