The institute is offering 35 internships for UG and PG students as a part of its 175th anniversary celebrations
IIT Roorkee launched the SPARK internship program for the year 2023. The internship aims to attract and nurture talented under-graduated students from across the country.
The selected students will work on cutting edge research topics with faculty members from 26 academic departments and centers, which include the latest establishment Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
The institute is offering 25 UG and 10 PG internships for students from institutes within the 200 Km range under the SPARK program. This decision was taken as a part of IIT Roorkee’s 175th Anniversary.
To apply, the applicants have to login and submit their applications through an online portal. They will have to upload their last semester mark-sheet of current degree, photograph, a 500-word research statement, and a brief 1-2 page resume. For students from other institutes, the submission of No Objection Certificate (NOC) is mandatory. They will also have to mention a list of 5 faculty members under whom they would like to do the summer intern.
The stipend for the internship is and the duration of the internship will be 6-8 weeks with a maximum duration for the UG internships is 6 weeks whereas for the PG internships will be 6 months. The eligibility criteria includes the students who have enrolled and completed at least two semesters of the undergraduate degree (BArch/BE/B.Tech/MSc/MA) in a relevant discipline from any institute of the country.
The minimum CGPA criterion for IITs/IISc students is a score above 7.5, while for NITs, IISERs, NISER, IIEST, UM-DAECBS, it is above 8.0 and 8.5 for students from other institutes of India. The deadline for submitting the applications is March 31st 2023 and the results will be declared during the second week of April. The program is scheduled to commence in the second week of May 2023.
The institute offers accommodation and mess facilities and the students are subject to pay for the same at par with payment made by the students living in the hostels. The average cost of housing is Rs 5500, which includes charges of mess and facility. The interns will be issued a temporary ID to avail the library, sports, medical, internet, computer and other departmental and institute recreation and research facilities. The interns will also be required to abide and conduct according to the rules of the institute. If any intern fails to do so, he/she will be asked to leave. After the completion of the internship, the students will be provided a certificate with the sign of the Dean, SRIC.
This internship will be really helpful for the interns as they get an experience which is essential for all engineering, science, and applied science students. It also provides them a practical and hands on experience in the field.
The program has been highly successful since its inception in 2018 with more than 15000 applications previous year, resulting in 120 plus offers made.
