Sabina Sawhney comes with exceptional skills and expertise. With 25 plus years at Delhi Public School (DPS)-Bopal, she has been an exemplary leader for decades. She has earned respect and accolades for her numerous innovative ideas in administration as well as teaching methodologies. She blends humanitarianism and professionalism.
National Education Policy 2020 is based on the tenets of access, equity, quality, affordability and accountability. DPS-Bopal offers holistic and multidisciplinary learning where students adapt and reinvent themselves to the demands of the new hybrid work culture and dynamic socio-cultural changes. Sports and art integration, design thinking approach, vocational courses, competency-based learning, regional language teaching from classes I-VIII and correlating subjects of different disciplines through experiential learning have shifted the focus of teaching from rote learning to holistic, integrated, enjoyable, and engaged learning.
Students enjoy the freedom of selecting interdisciplinary subjects through project-based learning. The redesigned holistic, 360-degree, multidimensional report cards will be introduced that would reflect the skills and uniqueness of each learner in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains.
In consonance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, critical thinking and the spirit of enquiry are encouraged through futuristic models, presentation of scientific research papers at Vigyanam, DPS Ka Baazigar – a display of business acumen and group dynamics and Math Modulo – the juxtaposition of abstract mathematical skills in real life. This exemplifies the essence of NEP- an element of choice and flexibility in teaching pedagogy to integrate horizontal and vertical learning.
Students leverage 21st-century learning through collaboration and creativity. At the Atal Tinkering Lab, students shape their ideas into models related to the fields of healthcare, agriculture, engineering, technology, education, and several other scientific spheres. Schools can transform their learning environments into dynamic hubs of student leadership for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), achieved through Green Practices, Water and Sustainability, Earth Day, and Plantation Drives. 330 activities are in the offing to fulfill 17 SDGs including the installation of solar panels and solar campus lights. (SDGs 11, 12)
Students volunteer at myriad social and civic responsibility activities such as Ek Mutthi Anaj, Visamo Kids Foundation, Old Age Centres, Cleanliness Drives, Tree Plantation, Pasti Se Pustak, Harvard Leadership Program, Vocal for Local exhibition, Yuva Tourism, Heritage Walk, Educational Trip to the Legislative Assembly, MUN, Art Exhibitions, E-Waste Collection, and several path-breaking initiatives help us produce excellent pupils.
To build new-age competencies, the students are encouraged to take up an internship from a varied choice of nearly 27 professions such as Automobile Engineering, Banking, Business Analytics, Science and Research, Aviation, Fashion Design, Medical, Legal Services, etc. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the school continued this program in virtual mode. In the current year, nearly 300 students have taken up this opportunity and have benefitted from this broader, multidisciplinary foundation. Workshops and skill enhancement seminars for students are conducted to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, public speaking, teamwork, digital literacy, leadership, and intercultural fluency.
Through STEM, students develop key skills that also encourage a scientific mindset. The Research and Innovation Club, ICT-enabled classrooms, and spacious and well-equipped laboratories provide them to access the best opportunities for growth and advancement.
