In an effort to align with the stipulations of the Right to Education Act, of 2009, the Bihar government has announced a substantial reduction in school holidays for the year. This reduction has been made for the days falling between September and December 2023. The total number of holidays for this period, which was 23 days, has now been cut down to 11 days.
This decision was made in response to the Right to Education Act, of 2009, which requires a minimum of 200 days of schooling for Grades 1 to 5, and at least 220 days for Grades 6 to 8. By decreasing the number of holidays, the state education department aims to ensure these mandates are met.
Some holidays, that were cut short, were originally linked to festivals that were not aligned with the holiday schedules of different districts in the state. Through this standardization of holidays, the government aims to prevent discrepancies and ensure uniformity in the number of teaching days in the state. This holiday adjustment applies only to the present year, that is, 2023.
