Indian mathematicians made seminal contributions to the study of trigonometry, algebra, arithmetics and negative numbers among other areas. The decimal number system that we still employ worldwide today was first seen in India. Mathematics on the Indian subcontinent has a rich history going back over 3,000 years and thrived for centuries before similar advances were made in Europe, with its influence meanwhile spreading to China and the Middle East. From the third century B.C., we also have written evidence of Brahmi numerals, the precursors to modern, Indian or Hindu-Arabic numeral systems that most of the world uses today. Once zero was introduced, almost all of the mathematical mechanics would be in place enable ancient Indians to study higher mathematics. Zero was a significant step en route to the democratisation of mathematics. Brahmagupta…… was a renowned mathematician of the past and was one of the inventors of the Fibonacci identity.
