With an agreement signed on Monday, Guwahati to get Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery.
The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDCL) and the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) signed the agreement.
The motive of IIGJ is to help in the implementation of the PM Vishwakarma initiative which provides specialized training and business development support to entrepreneurs and artisans and will also expertise the skills to the Northeast.
The partnership will offer an industry-relevant skilling and training center to the local artisans and entrepreneurs in the region said IIGJ CEO Debashis Biswas
To support the artisans and weavers through initiatives that preserve cultural heritage and promote sustainable development the NEHHDC, running under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) is highly committed.
Presently the IIGJ has five campuses located in Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi and Udipi, providing professional certification programs, degrees and diplomas. The main emphasis of the Guwahati campus is Vishwakarma and other short-term training programs.
