India is a country that has washed-up many contributions to the world of mathematics. The most important contributions are by scholars like Aryabhata, Srinivasa Ramanujan etc.
The study of the decimal system, a vital part of mathematics, was first recorded in India. India was the first country to find that any number dividedby zero is infinity.
Aryabhata, one of the greatest mathematicians worked on the ‘place value system’ using reports to signify numbers and stating qualities. Srinivasa Ramanujan was the person to contribute in continued fractions, Partial sums and products of hyper geometric series etc. Katyayana, the last Vedic scholar of mathematics had written a book, Katyayana Sulba Sutra, which presented much geometry, including the general Pythagorean theorem and a computation of the square root of 2 correct to five decimal places.
Varahamitra was a mathematician who discovered Trigonometric equations. Their discovery of the three important series expansions of calculus—several centuries before calculus was developed in Europe by Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz—was an achievement.
