In her address on the eve of the 76th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the significant strides India has made in the education sector over the past decade. She credited increased government investment and focused efforts for transforming the country’s educational landscape, emphasising improvements in learning quality, infrastructure, and digital inclusion.
President Murmu underscored that education plays a critical role in shaping the nation’s future, particularly for the youth, who will drive India’s progress in the coming years. She stated that the government’s continuous investment has yielded remarkable results, with notable advancements in multiple aspects of the education system.
Over the past decade, education quality has risen, alongside improvements in physical infrastructure and the incorporation of digital technologies. According to Murmu, a key development is the promotion of regional languages as mediums of instruction at various educational levels, which has contributed to enhanced student performance.
The President also praised the growing participation of women in the teaching profession. More than 60% of new teachers over the past decade have been women, a factor that has significantly contributed to the educational transformation. Furthermore, Murmu highlighted the expansion of vocational and skill-based education, along with new initiatives like corporate internships for young people, which are helping bridge the gap between academic learning and practical experience.
On a global scale, India has been making remarkable progress. The country now ranks sixth in intellectual property filings worldwide and has moved up from 48th to 39th position in the Global Innovation Index in just four years. In conclusion, President Murmu emphasised that these developments, fueled by a stronger foundation in school-level education, are propelling India to new heights in science, technology, and innovation.
