In Assam, students from Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) have found much-needed support through an innovative mentorship programme, ‘Each One Reach One’. This initiative, which has completed one successful year, aims to address both academic and emotional struggles faced by students. The programme focuses on providing individual mentorship, guiding students through not only their academic hurdles but also emotional and behavioural challenges.
A Helping Hand from Teachers
The programme was inspired by the realisation that many students face issues that extend beyond academics. Some struggle with hyperactivity, social anxiety, or low self-confidence, while others are overwhelmed by family pressures or peer concerns. Teachers across the Guwahati region came forward voluntarily to mentor students, creating strong teacher-student bonds that provided the necessary guidance.
Mentoring Programme Reaches Over 2,000 Students
A total of 2,260 students across 42 Kendriya Vidyalayas in the region have benefited from the ‘Each One Reach One’ initiative. Teachers—ranging from classroom educators to principals—took on the responsibility of adopting these students, providing them with the support they needed throughout the academic year. In its first year, the programme contributed to impressive results, with Class 10 and Class 12 students achieving pass rates of 99.5% and 98.6%, respectively.
Addressing Holistic Needs of Students
The initiative not only improved academic results but also helped students overcome behavioural issues and emotional struggles. Teachers helped identify learning gaps, including difficulties in literacy, STEM subjects, and focus-related concerns. By offering a combination of academic guidance, mindfulness techniques, and family involvement, the programme helped students overcome their individual challenges.
A National Inspiration
The success of ‘Each One Reach One’ has captured the attention of other Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country. With its strong emphasis on student wellbeing and personalised support, this mentorship programme has inspired several regions to implement similar initiatives, ensuring that more students can benefit from this compassionate approach to learning.
