Let’s have a look at the vibrant International Day of Yoga celebrations at CNM School, Mumbai
The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated across the world on June 21st since 2015, after it’s inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his UN address in 2014, had suggested the date of June 21, as it is the longest day of the year( Summer Solstice) in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world. The summer solstice occurs when the sun is at its highest position in the sky as the Earth’s axis is tilted by about 23.5 degrees relative to it’s orbital plane around the Sun. This tilt is also causes the changing of seasons. The summer solstice marks the transition to Dakshinayana.
In Hindu mythology, Shiva, the first yogi (Adi Yogi), is said to have begun imparting the knowledge of yoga to the rest of mankind on this day, and became the first guru (Adi Guru).
Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which had originated in ancient India.
Following the adoption of the UN resolution, several leaders of the spiritual movement in India voiced their support for the initiative.
This year, the theme for International Yoga Day 2023 is ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ effectively encapsulating our collective aspiration for ‘One Earth, One Family, and One Future.’
Since time immemorial Yoga holds great importance in the timeline of Indian history.
To commemorate this occasion and educate students the life lessons learnt through yoga CNM School conducted Yoga sessions for students from Grade 7 to 12.
Students learnt and performed yoga under the able guidance of the Yoga teacher and the Physical education teachers.
Simple yet effective asanas were demonstrated and taught to the students.
Each session lasted for about 45 minutes.
Students felt exhilarated and energised after the session. Many teachers too performed the yogic asanas during the session, thus setting an example for the students.
Through this event CNM School emphasized the value of yoga in order to lead a healthy and a happy life.
