Recognizing the universal appeal of Yoga, owing to its demonstrated benefits for health and towards stress relief, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed 21st June as the International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 11th December 2014. On the occasion of International Yoga Day 2023, schools across India have taken this opportunity to make students and parents aware about the rewards that Yoga offers for health and well-being.

International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on June 21st. At Sarvodhya Public School Jammu Schools celebrated this day for promoting physical and mental wellness through yoga. This day is celebrated to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga and to encourage people to adopt it as a part of their daily routine.
Schools celebrated the day by organizing various activities related to yoga. At Sarvodhya Public School we started the day with a prayer and a yoga session. Students perform various asanas or yoga postures, such as the Surya Namaskar or the Sun Salutation, and pranayama or breathing exercises. These exercises help to improve concentration and reduce stress levels in students and teachers.
School also organized yoga competitions where students compete with each other to showcase their skills. The competition was judged by a panel of yoga experts who evaluated the participants on their posture, flexibility, and overall performance. The winners are awarded prizes and certificates. Refreshment was also given to the participants.
In addition to yoga sessions and competitions, school invited yoga instructors to speak to the students. The instructors provided valuable insights into the history and philosophy of yoga and demonstrate various yoga postures. They also educate students on the benefits of yoga for physical and mental health.
In today’s yoga sessions, meditation, and lectures on yoga philosophy were the centre of attraction. The aim of the program is to provide students with an immersive experience of yoga and to encourage them to adopt it as a part of their daily routine.
In conclusion, International Yoga Day is celebrated in around the world by promoting physical and mental wellness through yoga. In today’s session Principal of the school Mr. Viveak Arora apprised all the teachers and students to adopt yoga in their daily life to keep life stress free and disease free.
