Recognizing the universal appeal of Yoga, owing to its demonstrated benefits for health and towards stress relief, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed 21st June as the International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 11th December 2014. On the occasion of International Yoga Day 2023, schools across India have taken this opportunity to make students and parents aware about the rewards that Yoga offers for health and well-being.

Yoga is not about self- improvement, it is about self acceptance. On the occasion of World Yoga day we at VELS, HSR Layout celebrated and dedicated this day to promoting global harmony and peace. At VELS we are proud of spreading awareness about the benefits of Yoga. In this holistic approach to wellness and self- care children from the whole school participated with enthusiasm.
Tiny tots of Nursery; PP-I and PP-2 followed the instructions to make beautiful formations like Bhujangasana, Tadasana and Ashtanga asana. Grade I and II did Vajrasana to accelerate their concentrating power. Grade III performed the ‘ tree pose’ – Vrikshasana which helps strengthen knees. Grade IV did Kapaalbhati- the most recognized pose all over the world to improve breathing. Grade V performed Nadi Shodhana which helps maintain emotional balance. Grade VI learnt how to tackle neck and back pain due to mental stress by practising Matsyasana. Grade VII – X performed the 12 themes of Surya Namaskara.
The best part was the myriad of hues of Yoga mats which added a visual delight to the whole event.
