International Museum Expo 2023 Concludes Successfully

The International Museum Expo 2023 organized as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate the 47th International Museum Day (IMD) concludes successfully. The three-day event was organised from 18th to 20th May at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The IMD theme for this year is ‘Museums, Sustainability and Well Being’. The Museum Expo is designed to initiate a holistic conversation on Museums with museum professionals to enable them to evolve as cultural centers that play a pivotal role in India’s cultural diplomacy.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the International Museum Expo 2023. During the program, the Prime Minister inaugurated a virtual walkthrough of the upcoming National Museum at the North and South Blocks. The Museum is a comprehensive effort to highlight and showcase historical events, personalities, ideas, and achievements related to India’s past that have contributed to the making of India’s present. The Prime Minister also unveiled the Mascot of the International Museum Expo, the Graphic Novel – A Day at the Museum, the Directory of Indian Museums, the Pocket Map of Kartavya Path, and Museum Cards.

The event was aimed at offering a comprehensive platform for museum professionals and enthusiasts to exchange ideas and insights and promote cross-cultural learning and understanding. The three-day International Museum Expo, focused on various themed museums, which will be explored through workshops, seminars, master classes, panel discussions, and other events. International museum professionals, diplomats, curators, consultants, academicians, and students from various fields across the world participated in these activities, providing a unique opportunity for cross-disciplinary learning and collaboration.

One of the key features of the expo are the 7 masterclasses and 11 panel discussions that took place across the three days. The Masterclasses were talks on specific subject matter relating to the functioning of museums spaces led by global experts in a lec-dem format. The panel discussions feature Indian and international museum experts and consultants featuring topics such as unconventional museums, curating for everyone, and financial and environmental sustainability in museums.

A distinctive component of the Expo, the Techno Mela has was designed to facilitate B2B networking between those who wish to make museums and technical vendors that provide specialised services for the same. This aspect comprises lighting and technical equipment vendors, along with the showcase of some museums from the national level down to the community level.

The programme witnessed the participation of international delegations from cultural centers and museums from across the world.
