Library
A Library is a very useful place which has many books and brings together people who are willing and have immense interest to gain knowledge. Library and books are our tools to expand our knowledge beyond dimensions. Reading habits develop from a library, it helps us satisfy our thirst and curiosity for knowledge.
Now, let’s peep into the origin and history of library. The word ‘Library’ was coined from the Latin word “Libraria” which means “a collection of books”. Sri Ranganathan, an Indian librarian & educator is considered as the “Father of Library science” in India and his contributions are well known in the world. The first public library in India is the State Central Library of Kerala, also known as the Trivandrum Public Library. It was established in 1829.
Libraries have evolved with time. Now its not only about books but, a collection of books and/or other print or non-print materials organized and well maintained for use. They can be used for reading, for reference, study, or further research. One place with so many utilities, isn’t it wonderful?
Furthermore, “Library” is essential for
- Building knowledgeable and strong community.
- Connecting People and Ideas.
- Improve our Personal Learning and Recreation.
We have an amazing library in our school. Books of all types and appropriate for all ages are neatly organized on the shelves. It’s a reader’s paradise in true sense and for kids like me who are extremely fond of books, it’s a delight! I look forward to my library class each week. I have lots of books on various topics at my “mini library” at home. Thanks to my family for that! The habit of reading builds over time.
I personally feel “A Library is not a luxury but a necessity”. We must have Public libraries in all localities so it can benefit everyone because knowledge is the driving force of growth and development.
