As temperatures soar across Jharkhand, the state government has revised school timings to protect students from the sweltering heat. The decision comes in response to growing concerns from parents about the toll the extreme weather is taking on children’s health and safety.
New School Timings
According to the new schedule:
- Kindergarten to Class 8: 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM
- Classes 9 to 12: 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM
This change aims to reduce students’ exposure to peak afternoon heat, which has been making school commutes and classroom learning increasingly difficult.
Parents Raise Red Flag
The Jharkhand Parents Association (JPA) was quick to advocate for change. In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi, JPA President Ajay Rai voiced concerns over the impact of the heatwave, especially on younger children.
“This intense heat is affecting our children’s health and making school travel a real challenge,” said Rai. “We need earlier school hours to protect them from the worst of the heat.”
Rai proposed an even earlier schedule—from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM—to further minimize heat exposure while keeping education on track.
Call for Swift Action
Parents are urging the administration to act quickly, with many hoping the government will continue to prioritize student well-being as the summer intensifies.
The move underscores the importance of adaptive policies in response to climate-related challenges, particularly when it comes to the safety of children.
