The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has officially opened the registration window for admission to Class 6 in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) for the 2026–27 academic year. Eligible candidates can now apply online through the official portals — navodaya.gov.in or cbseitms.rcil.gov.in. The last date to submit the application form is July 29, 2025.
The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2026 will be conducted in two phases, based on the candidate’s location.

Eligibility Criteria for JNVST Class 6 Admission 2026–27
To apply for admission, students must fulfil the following conditions:
Residential Requirement: Applicants must register only for the JNV in the district where they reside. A valid residence certificate is mandatory.

Educational Qualification: The student must have successfully completed Classes 3, 4, and 5 in a government, government-aided, or government-recognised school.
Single Attempt Policy: Each student is allowed only one opportunity to appear for the JNV Selection Test.

Rural Quota:
75% of the total seats are reserved for students from rural areas. To qualify under this quota, the student should have studied in Classes 3, 4, and 5 in a rural school located in the same district.
Remaining Seats: The remaining 25% are filled on a merit basis and are open to both urban and rural students.

Steps to Apply for JNVST Class 6 Admission
Parents or guardians can follow these steps to complete the registration:
Visit the official website: navodaya.gov.in
Click on the link: ‘Register for Class VI Admission 2026’
On the new page, click on the registration button
Fill in all the required personal and academic details

Upload the necessary documents including:
Recent passport-size photograph
Signature of the applicant
Residence certificate
Submit the application form
Download and save a copy of the completed application for future reference
JNVST Class 6 Entrance Exam: Dates and Locations

The JNVST 2026 will be held in two distinct phases:
Phase 1: December 13, 2025, at 11:30 AM
This phase will cover the following states and union territories:
Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal (excluding Darjeeling), and all UTs except Ladakh.

Phase 2: April 11, 2026, at 11:30 AM
This phase will be conducted in selected districts from:
Jammu and Kashmir (excluding Jammu-I, Jammu-II, Samba, and Udhampur), Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh (Dibang Valley and Tawang), Himachal Pradesh (including Chamba, Kinnaur, Mandi), Darjeeling district of West Bengal, and the Union Territory of Ladakh (Leh and Kargil).

Key Points for Applicants
Admission is granted based on merit determined by performance in the JNVST.
No fee is charged for the application or the entrance examination.
Students selected through the JNVST will be eligible for free education, boarding, and lodging in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, which are centrally funded and managed by NVS under the Ministry of Education.
