The Kerala government is set to develop a state-owned artificial intelligence (AI) engine for schools, marking a significant step in integrating advanced technology into the education system. This initiative follows the successful training of school teachers in incorporating AI fundamentals into Information and Communications Technology (ICT) textbooks.
The AI engine will be developed under the leadership of Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) within the academic framework. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the State Camp of Little KITEs at the International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS) campus.
KITE, the technology arm of the state’s General Education Department, has also completed the distribution of 29,000 robotic kits to schools. These Open Hardware Robotic Kits include Arduino Uno Rev3, LEDs, SG90 Mini Servo Motor, LDR Light Sensor Module, IR Sensor Module, Active Buzzer Module, Push Button, Bread Board, Jumper wires, and Resistors. This initiative aims to provide hands-on learning experiences in robotics and AI for students across Kerala.
The state is also encouraging corporate participation in expanding robotic education. Several organisations, including major public sector and private enterprises, have contributed through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to support this effort. Officials emphasised the need for more companies to follow suit, ensuring wider access to AI-driven education.
Additionally, ICT textbooks now include critical topics such as the impact of excessive digital device usage among children and strategies to combat fake news. The government aims to enhance awareness and digital literacy among students.
The two-day event features interactive sessions with leading AI and computational biology experts, reinforcing Kerala’s commitment to equipping students with future-ready skills.
