As the country experiences continuous heavy rainfall in various regions, schools and colleges in multiple states have been compelled to close. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts regarding the rainfall, leading authorities to take preventive measures and prioritize the safety of students and staff.

In adherence to the IMD’s orange alert, educational institutions in the Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts of Karnataka will remain shut. This closure encompasses Anganwadi centres, primary and high schools, undergraduate colleges, as well as government-aided and private schools. Parents are advised to keep their children away from flood-prone areas and locations with high water levels.

Similarly, Goa has declared a holiday for students from Classes 1 to 12. The IMD has issued an orange alert for the state, indicating the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall and potential floods. Although schools will be closed, scheduled examinations will proceed as planned, as confirmed by the Director of Education, Shailesh Sinai Zingade.

In Kerala, the government has announced the closure of schools, colleges, and universities in Kasaragod, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Kottayam districts. However, public service examinations will continue as scheduled.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for six districts in Kerala, including Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

Authorities have urged parents to exercise caution and prevent children from venturing into low-lying areas, rivers, lakes, and seashores. Fishermen have also been instructed to refrain from going out to sea.

District-level officials are on high alert for any necessary rescue and relief operations, promptly responding to public complaints. Additionally, tourists and the general public have been advised to avoid riverbanks and seashores.

With an orange alert indicating heavy rainfall ranging from 6 cm to 20 cm, it is crucial to remain vigilant. The IMD’s alerts play a vital role in informing and safeguarding the public, ensuring that necessary precautions are taken during these weather conditions.
