Delhi University VC Yogesh Singh had made the announcement about starting three technical courses at DU’s centenary celebrations earlier this year

With the Ministry of Education yet to give its final nod, Delhi University’s plans to introduce technical courses for the upcoming academic year seems to be a difficult task. However senior officials in the university are patient and are hopeful about introducing the courses, the moment they receive approval from the concerned authorities.

The Delhi University is planning to offer three technical courses – Bachelors in Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering, B.Tech in Electronics and Communication, and B.Tech in Electrical Engineering. According to DU’s plans, the three courses will have 120 seats each, and will be offered by the Faculty of Technology. It has to be noted that, as per the AICTE rules, other colleges are not allowed to run the B.Tech courses. However there has been no news of implementation of the plan from the DU authorities’ ever since the announcement. The UGC had recommended the proposal of the University regarding the same few months ago and is now pending with the Ministry of Education.

In line with the much discussed NEP 2020, Delhi University will shift to a four-year undergraduate programme in the upcoming academic session. The Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) adopted by Delhi University is trying to incorporate the two most discussed features of NEP – multidisciplinarity and multiple exit points through the course.
