Learning Outcome Falters in Kerala and Telangana

The yearly district-wise quality analysis of schools released by the Union Ministry of Education has revealed a dip in the learning outcome of students in Kerala and Telangana schools. The highest score in 2021-22 is 173 in Ernakulam district. Almost all districts n Kerala underperformed in 2021-22 compared to 2020-21. Even Telangana districts have shown dipping learning outcome. Learning outcome is an indicator if a student is academically sound and has reading, writing and numerical skills. Telangana’s overall score is 36.6 of 290 points. “Majority schools did not have proper online sessions for classes 1 to 5. Again, most did not attend in absence of devices. Concentration lapse was also an issue,” said a Telangana government school teacher. Irrespective of the recent development, “Tholimettu programme”, that was started in 2022 to improve foundational literacy has begun showing results
