Maharashtra government has collaborated with the British Council to internationalize higher education in the state. The collaboration is aimed to bring the education system at par with international standards. This means there has to be an upgradation of syllabus, proper training of the faculty and building of key leadership skills in students. The MoU between the two bodies was signed between Vikas Chandra Rastogi, IAS, Principal Secretary Higher Education and Rashi Jain, Director West India, British Council in the presence of Chandrakant Patil, Minister of Higher and Technical Education and Alison Barrett MBE, Director India, British Council.
Apart from bringing essential changes in education, the collaboration will bring in cultural exchanges that will foster the state’s educational and economical aspirations of development. It will enhance research that is prime for any advancement in education. The agreement is commendable for its global approach, where more collaborations and knowledge exchanges would take place to trigger increased research potential. As of now the two bodies are stressing on capacity building, leadership development and training for faculty through offline and virtual workshops. More of their work will be revealed in the coming days. As of now, the union in itself brings hope for Maharashtra’s education system.
