Maharashtra Government to direct Schools to install CCTV cameras

by admin

The Maharashtra Government will direct schools to install CCTV cameras in their campuses. The step is to be taken to ensure safety of girls in school premises. In the past, there have been reports of harassment of female students in schools. In order to address this issue the state government will hold a joint meeting with the School Education department and the Home department.

The state government has also initiated programmes like the good touch-bad touch awareness programme that helps students figure out when they are being harassed and act likewise. “It is like developing a sixth sense among girl students. If a person is luring them, they should be able to sense it and save themselves,” said Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Several schools have already installed CCTV cameras in their premises and the ones left will be asked to do the same. Schools too need technological assistance to ensure the safety of students. Creating a safe space for children is an essential need and shouldn’t be ignored. Many Indian states have already directed
schools to implement CCTV cameras. Maharashtra will soon join these states to eradicate harassment cases in educational centres.
