All government schools have been closed and commenced holidays due to the extreme heatwave prevailing across the country. Maharashtra Government, on April 20, issued an official notice announcing summer vacation for all government schools across the state to be closed from today till June 15.
The preponed summer vacations would continue with immediate effect from April 21 2023 to June 14 2023. The government order remains the same for all districts except Vidarbha, where schools are closed till June 30.
Following the death of multiple people recently due to the extreme heat, the government issued this order across the state. However, this order is valid only for schools under the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, MSBSHSE. Schools under ISCE and CBSE boards may exercise their decisions independently. Although, it is predicted that private schools will also follow suit with the state order.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted these extreme weather conditions to prevail throughout the week with a dry spell. As many as 14 people have recently lost their lives due to the heatwave across the state. The average temperatures in several parts of the state are above 45 degrees Celsius.
