International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, honours the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women worldwide. This day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. The theme for 2024 is ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress.’ In recognition of this important occasion, Brainfeed will be highlighting diverse perspectives and insights from women leaders in education.

In this context, we are pleased to present an article below by Sunir Nagi, Principal, Pallavi Model School, Alwal, Hyderabad.

Leadership means wearing a crown. Uneasiness lies in the head who wears a crown, isn’t it true? With the role, comes immense responsibility and dedication to duty. I have been a teacher for 34 years and hence a learner from my students and parents since the time I started teaching. But the mantle of leadership has taught me the essence of team work. If I want to be successful I need to go that extra mile to build a bond of trust between me and my team.

As a leader I need to model behaviour if I want my team and students to follow something. I have strived to nurture a garden of values in the young ones by following the same like punctuality, regularity, integrity, time management and the commitment to excel in every way.  I take classes and love to be amidst my students – that’s my best stress buster. Being a CBSE master trainer and taking up several training programmes in different schools has added to my experience which I try to share with my teachers and students.

I believe in experiential teaching – learning process as it engages the learner and challenges their intellectual capacity. It was a moment of pride for me when our students took up the issue of road construction in the nearby areas and approached the local leaders and were successful in getting it done through planning and petitions. It was their sheer grit and determination and my guidance which helped them succeed. My students took up the task of cleaning the lake in our area as community development plan and have reached international and national levels in several competitions.

I believe in the mantra that change is the only constant aspect and my team works around the same to achieve success. I am very vocal about my actions and plans and believe with cooperation and coordination of every stake holder we can achieve excellence. We have also started a skill development centre and trained local shop keepers in data entry operations under the aegis of CBSE. I believe in gender empowerment and instill the same in my students. I believe we can together make a better India if we ignite the passion for learning and serving our motherland amongst our students.
