Rajkot, August 16, 2021: Eminent judges of the Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Gujarat along with other dignitaries, recently participated in a one-day seminar organized at the newly launched state-of-the-art moot court hall at Marwadi University. Marwadi University has set up the moot court hall which includes HD teleconferencing facilities and interiors that match the best of Indian courtrooms, to help students gain an edge in the legal ecosystem.
The session started with a lamp lighting ceremony and Saraswati Vandana, after which a welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Dhruv Pandey, Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, Marwadi University. Furthermore, Hon’ble Justice Mukeshkumar Rasikbhai Shah was felicitated by respected Vice Chairman, Mr. Jitubhai Chandarana, Marwadi University and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ilesh Jashvantrai Vora was felicitated by respected Chairman, Mr. Ketan Marwadi. Furthermore, the welcome address was delivered by Registrar, Marwadi University, Mr. Naresh Jadeja followed by respected eminent educationist and institution builder, Prof. Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, along with Founder of Marwadi University, Mr. Ketan Marwadi.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Shah who discussed various cases where Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has ensured rights of women, children, and victims are protected, also added that, “the heights that Marwadi University is scaling in just a span of a few years was astounding. It would have been a mistake not to visit the campus to witness first hand, the state-of-the-art moot court hall constructed by them. He complimented Marwadi University and even offered internships to the students with his office at the Supreme Court of India.
The inaugurations also included a session on “Latest development in Consumer Law”, attended by Mr. Manohar J. Mehta, Judicial Member, Gujarat State Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, who gave a detailed overview of the new Act “Consumer Protection Act, 2019”. He explicated upon it with the help of various day-to-day examples. He was facilitated by Mr. Paresh Maru, Practicing Advocate, Gujarat.
Additional sessions included, “New Labour Code and way ahead”, addressed by Mr. Yogen Narendra Pandya, Advocate, High Court of Gujarat, as well as a session on “Model Rent Act and Its Implications”, whose speaker was Mr. Hriday Buch, Advocate, High Court of Gujarat.
In line with the growing demand for legal education worldwide, the Faculty of Law, Marwadi University, currently offers B.Com. LL.B (Hons), B. A. LL.B.(Hons), LLM and PhD courses. It offers specialization in criminal, commercial, constitutional and IP laws; electives in emerging areas in law like food, entertainment, air and space, energy; and 8 compulsory internships from first year itself.
“The moot court is a significant addition to MU’s law faculty, one that will enable students from MU and other universities to engage in the practical aspects of the law via simulations of actual court proceedings, by preparing arguments on behalf of the applicant and the defence of a fictitious legal problem,” said Prof Rhishikesh Dave, Dean, Faculty of Law, MU.
Marwadi University had also recently held its first pan-India virtual moot court competition, in light of the ongoing pandemic which featured more than 42 teams, executed exclusively for first-year students to familiarize them with mooting skills right at the beginning of law school.
