The New Education Policy (NEP) is expected to be announced in the month of May. As per sources, the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry is working on the final draft of NEP. “The ministry is giving finishing touches to the draft of the NEP and is planning to present the document to the Union Cabinet soon,” sources said.
Delay in staring the new academic year
Nationwide lockdown to control the spread the covid-19 pandemic has resulted in the delay of commencing the new academic year. Instead of July-August period, the plan is to being the new academic calendar in September. This is the reason that the government is considering to finalise the final draft of NEP before September.
PM Modi has reviewed NEP on May 1
According to the reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reviewed the draft of the policy on May 1. During Parliamentary discussions, MPs have shared their suggestions for NEP and the Ministry has looked at all of them. The policy will be soon brought to the cabinet, the sources said.
Concerns on New Education Policy (NEP)
A panel of experts have together prepared and combined the draft education policy. This expert panel was led by Former ISRO Chief K Kasturirangan.
A series of concerns had surfaced when a draft of the policy was released. One of them was the imposition of Hindi. Some of the Indian states expressed their disagreement to which HRD Ministry had assured to address earlier.
