More than 1000 students benefit from DU’s fee waiver scheme

All the applicants are selected for the fee waiver scheme after due verification, which also includes home visits

Over a thousand students from poor financial background studying at Delhi University have received the benefit from the fee waiver scheme launched by the university. The amount of benefits has been more than 1 Crore and 80 percent of the students received the full waiver of their fees.

The waiver is inclusive of all the components of fees paid by the students except the hostel and examination fees. The waiver scheme was announced by the university in November last year.

1009 students have received the benefits more than 1 Crore under the Financial Support Scheme (FSS). The necessary data was collected by the Dean of Students Welfare Office. 1700 students received the help from the scheme for financially weak students. The disbursement of fees waiver was finalized after due verification which includes home visit of the applicants. The selected applicants were then requested to submit documents and some undertakings.  The scheme reflects the Government of India’s ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ motto.

The university strives to extend the benefits of access, equity and quality education towards the students who come from poor financial background. This scheme was launched by recognizing the affirmative action as mandated by the Constitution of India.

The university has announced a financial support scheme that will aid the students who come from financially poor background. The FSS is the example that reflects the university’s commitment in providing an enabling and inclusive environment for all students. The students who come from economically weak backgrounds can get up to 100 percent fee waiver, depending upon their family income.

Only full time bonafide students studying in the university are eligible to apply for the fee waiver. A student whose family income is less than 4 lakhs is eligible for a full fee waiver, while a student whose family income is between 4 lakhs and 8 lakhs are eligible for a 50 percent of fee waiver.
