National anthem compulsory in Karnataka schools

by admin

The Karnataka government issued a directive on Wednesday mandating the National Anthem for all schools and junior or pre-university colleges of the state. The state government asked all the public, private, aided and unaided K-12 institutions to make sure that the National anthem is sung every morning before the commencement of lectures. In event of an absence of a proper congregation space in the institution, the students can sing the national anthem inside the classrooms. The state government passed the order under Section 133 (2) of Karnataka Education Act, 1983.

After receiving complaints that certain schools were not complying with this directive, the state took necessary actions against them. Notices have been issued to three private schools that were found not following the rule. The schools are St Joseph’s Boys’ High School, Bishop Cotton Boys’ High School, and Baldwin Girls’ High School. The action was taken after “Officials submitted a report confirming that the schools weren’t making students sing the National Anthem daily,” said a source.
