The Gujarat government on Thursday has cancelled the eight-day Navratri vacation for schools which was introduced last year, following the opposition from self-financed schools. Last year the government had taken the decision that was in compliance with “popular demand”.
But when the decision was taken last year, as many as 400 private schools in Surat district alone have defied the government order with teachers saying that it was hard for them to complete the curriculum and this would affect students adversely.
Most of the educational institutions which are under the purview of the Gujarat State Education Board have also raised petitions against it. The state has taken now the decision to scrap the holiday in the cabinet meeting held on Thursday, after taking into consideration the views of the management of several schools.
The state education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said that the state cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani have decided not to give Navratri vacation having deliberations with different representations received from various quarters. The schools have welcomed this decision of state government.
