In a major move aimed at enhancing access to educational materials, Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan oversaw the signing of a Letter of Engagement between NCERT and Amazon Seller Services Pvt Ltd. This partnership is aimed at ensuring that original NCERT textbooks are sold at their printed prices on key e-commerce platforms, addressing distribution challenges and preventing the sale of counterfeit books.
Shri Pradhan announced that NCERT will increase its book production threefold, publishing 15 crore copies for the 2025-26 academic year. These books will be distributed to nearly 20,000 pin codes nationwide. He noted that this initiative supports the goals of the National Education Policy 2020 by making education more accessible and affordable. Alongside the agreement, the new Amazon NCERT storefront was launched, providing students even in the most remote areas easy access to textbooks at official prices.
Shri Pradhan also expressed the need for interactive, AI-powered e-books to engage the 300 million students of India and highlighted the crucial role textbooks play in promoting India’s “soft power.” Amazon will assist NCERT in identifying unauthorized sellers to ensure that only genuine textbooks reach students.
