NCERT eliminates chapters on Mughal Empire from Class 12 history textbooks

NCERT has made modifications to the class 12th History textbooks by removing chapters on the Mughal Empire. The revised syllabus will be implemented for the 2023-24 academic year. UP and other State Boards that follow the syllabus and pattern of CBSE will also implement these changes. The book titled, “Themes of Indian History-Part II” will have chapters like ‘Kings and Chronicles; the Mughal Courts (C. 16th and 17th centuries)’ removed. Some chapters from the Civics textbook have also been removed like, ‘US hegemony in world politics’ and ‘The Cold War Era’.

Class 12 textbook, “Politics in Indian since Independence” have chapters like ‘Rise of popular movements’ and ‘Era of one-party dominance’ eliminated. NCERT has also omitted certain textbooks of classes 10th and 11th. The Class 11th textbook, “Themes In World History”, has chapters like ‘Central Islamic lands,’ ‘Confrontation of cultures,’ and ‘The Industrial Revolution’ removed. Chapters like ‘Democracy and diversity’, ‘Popular struggles and movement’ and ‘Challenges to democracy’ have been dropped from Class 10 textbook, “Democratic Politics-II”. The Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (UPBSE) has revised its class 10, 11, 12 syllabus following CBSE. Secretary Divyakant Shukla has confirmed that the revised syllabus will be uploaded on the official website. Books already with the revised portions are now available in the market.
