The National eligibility and entrance test (NEET) can be expected to be held around the third and fourth week of June as The Medical Advisory Council of the National Medical Commission has asked the National Testing Agency to consider that time period. The council in the last meeting with the NTA asked it to consider the suggested date and to work on it as per their convenience.
The NTA has a number of entrance tests lined up in April 2022, which include the JEE programmes, (for admission to engineering and architecture courses), NEET for medical and allied courses and a common entrance test for securing a seat at the central universities. According to someone present in the meeting, they discussed the most suitable dates for conducting the NEET exam and advised the NTA to pick a date between the 3rd or 4th week of June. A representative of the meeting also pointed out the position of NTA, which was also conducting other exams as well.
In the previous year, the NEET-UG exam was held on 12th September with more than 95% of the registered candidates appearing for the exam. NEET-UG will however continue to be a single day, pen and paper exam. There will be no changes in the format of this exam. More than 15.44 lakh candidates had written the exam at 3858 centres in 13 languages in the country. Only 8.7 lakh students had qualified for the exam.
According to sources, the JEE, the NEET-UG and the CUCET exams will be announced by March 10th and the registration process for the JEE main examination is likely to start as soon as possible. In the previous year, 2021, the JEE main exam was conducted four times in the year, to give students a better chance at qualifying the exams. This time however, the number of attempts have been slashed to two with the merit list having best of the two scores. Last year, the first phase of the exam was conducted in February and the next in March. The later phases were scheduled to be conducted in April and May but was postponed due to the second wave of the covid 19 pandemic that wreaked havoc in the nation.
