Today, June 13th, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that it has rescinded the decision to grant grace marks to 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates seeking admission to MBBS, BDS, and other courses. These candidates are now eligible to participate in a re-test scheduled for June 23. Candidates who opt out of the re-test among the 1,563 mentioned will have their results based on their original marks, excluding any grace marks. The results of the re-test will be announced on June 30. The Centre announced that counselling for admissions to MBBS, BDS, and other courses will commence on July 6.
This year, 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720, a first in NTA history, including six from a centre in Faridabad, Haryana, raising concerns about potential irregularities. On June 10, numerous students protested in Delhi, demanding an investigation into alleged irregularities. There are claims that the allocation of grace marks led to 67 students sharing the top rank. The National Testing Agency (NTA) formed a committee following the controversy over the high number of top scores in the NEET UG 2024 exam. The Supreme Court had declined to halt the ongoing admissions counselling process.
