NEET UG 2024: Supreme Court postpones hearing to July 18

by Subeditor1

The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on the NEET UG 2024 ‘paper leak’ case to July 18, 2024. The adjournment was due to CJI D Y Chandrachud noting that some parties had not received the affidavits filed by the Centre and NTA. According to media reports, the Supreme Court granted the adjournment to allow the parties time to respond to these affidavits.

In the previous hearing, the Supreme Court directed the NTA to provide details on when the question paper leak occurred, how the papers were leaked, and the period between the leak and the actual NEET-UG examination that was held on May 5.

Opposing the idea of a re-test, the Centre stated that a comprehensive report from IIT-Madras refutes allegations of widespread malpractice or unfair advantages to candidates at select centres. According to IIT-Madras’ data analysis, there is no indication of mass malpractice or localized benefits leading to abnormal scores. The Centre noted that IIT-Madras thoroughly analyzed the top 140,000 ranks for 2023 and 2024 to detect any abnormalities, aiming to identify if any centres or cities showed signs of undue advantage due to malpractices.
