On July 25, 2019, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) said that no classes will be conducted in dilapidated parts of 21 Kendriya Vidyalayas as the buildings have become very old and are found unsafe in an audit ordered by the HRD Ministry. The school buildings were found to be fully or partially unsafe by the structural audit.
The KVS said in a statement that, in the unsafe portion of the ‘Vidyalaya’ (school) buildings, no classes will be held. Depending upon the availability of safe classes in the building, the classes of primary, secondary & higher secondary are being operated at different times.
The structural audit of these buildings which are more than 10 years old was conducted considering the safety of the students & 21 school buildings were found to be fully or partially unsafe as it required special repairs or replacement, as stated by the HRD Ministry.
Most of the buildings found to be unsafe are in Maharashtra (8) followed by Assam. Even one each in Tripura, Meghalaya, Kerala, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, & Sikkim and two buildings each in Uttar Pradesh & Gujarat, are also found to be unsafe.
The KVS said that for special repair or replacement work necessary action is being taken.
