Odisha Government declares a salary increase for 12,784 junior teachers in schools

On March 13, 2024, the office of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced an increase in the monthly salary of junior teachers in primary and upper primary schools statewide, from Rs. 13,800/- to Rs. 20,000/-. Junior teachers who have completed three years of service in contractual positions will receive the revised salary.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the salary increase will be retrospective from January 1, 2023. This decision will benefit 12,784 junior teachers in the state and will incur an additional expense of ₹95 crore annually to the state exchequer.

Earlier the Odisha government declared an increase in wages for temporary instructors and the regularization of services for those who cleared the Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET). This decision, made on March 1, 2024, raised the remuneration of temporary teachers, or ‘Gana Sikshyaks’, to Rs 10,000 monthly from the previous Rs 7,000.
