One-fourth of EWS Seats vacant in Delhi schools

Delhi schools

Out of 48,122 seats in private schools, nearly 12,600 seats have been marked to be unreported in New Delhi. According to the Directorate of Education (DOE), this is the scenario because students under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and disadvantaged category did not report for admission.

31,726 admissions under this category have already been completed while 1,725 are still on the waiting list. Calculated on the basis of general category admissions, 25 percent seats stay reserved for EWS category students.

“If some parents (from the general category) approached schools and the school rejected them that go on to prove that the school deliberately curtailed general category admissions in order to avoid EWS/DG admissions at entry level. Action against such schools must be initiated,” stated the minutes of the meeting.

The number of “unreported” cases out of the 13 education districts in Delhi:

  • North West (B) (422)
  • West (311),
  • Southwest (B) (298)
  • East (200),
  • South East (180)
  • North West A (160)
