How can schools produce sportspersons of international caliber? Can schools actually do it?

It is practically impossible for a school to allocate 4-5 hours for sports on a daily basis. The requirement of CBSE and other boards also does not allow so much time. Also, a Physical Education teacher cannot coach students in more than one sport. However, schools can promote sports in a big way.

Tell us how

We decided to allow the coaches of different sports disciplines to utilise the facilities after school hours and collect fee from students and the management would not collect a share. Also, the management allows students and budding sportspersons to be a part of the academy. The school students are given a discount and the needy get scholarship to chase their dream.

All schools have good sports infrastructure but is largely underutilised or are not utilised after 2 p.m. This approach of the management not sharing the fee taken from students towards coaching resulted in great motivation for the coaches and the sports infrastructure too is taken care of as it is in use.

Share with us success stories

There are many but will share a few. Deepak and Rahul Chahar are well-known names in Indian cricket. Kuhu, a student qualified for nationals in the U-15 age group. Another student, Anushka Mishra is a state level gold medallist in rifle shooting and scored 98.7 per cent in the board exam.

Gist of a successful model

  • Allow the sports infrastructure to be used
  • Management should not collect fee from students instead, the fee should go to the coaching staff
