Performance Grading Index 2017-18: Chandigarh best performing state in education

According to HRD Ministry officials, Chandigarh has been ranked best among states and Union territories in the field of education which is followed by Kerala and Gujarat. Arunachal Pradesh is the least performing state which has been ranked 36 as per the Performance Grading Index 2017-18.

Performance Grading Index 2017-18 has given the following ranks to the states below:-

  • Delhi was ranked (9)
  • Rajasthan (8)
  • Punjab (7)
  • Tamil Nadu (5)
  • Haryana (4)
  • Arunachal Pradesh (36)
  • Nagaland (35)
  • Meghalaya (34)

The Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has also shared the information in Parliament last week that Kerala has the highest literacy rate followed by Lakshadweep and Mizoram.

In 2017 the then Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar said that in order to completely eradicate illiteracy from the country students from class VI to XII are being trained to pass on their knowledge to their parents, grandparents and others in the family who have been deprived of it.
