President Droupadi Murmu declared that the newly implemented National Education Policy aims in bridging the digital gap and creating a standardized educational structure to support underprivileged students.
President Murmu announced this in her statement on the occasion of the 75th Republic Day. President Droupadi Murmu asserts that the National Education Policy places significant emphasis on narrowing the digital divide and establishing a standardized educational framework for the benefit of underprivileged students.
The year 2020 saw the introduction of the National Education Policy (NEP), replacing the 1986 National Policy on Education. The new policy advocates for the expansion of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, suggesting its extension to include all schools, ranging from pre-school to standard 12, unlike the previous policy, limited to Class 1-8.
Furthermore, the NEP seeks to overhaul the education system by adopting a 5+3+3+4 formula, departing from the existing 10+2 model.
The foundation stage will involve students aged 3–8 years, the preparatory schooling stage will cover the age group of 8-11, the middle school will address students aged 11-14, and the secondary level will involve those in the 14-18 age group.
