The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has been announced, National Curriculum Framework (NCF) for Foundational Stage has been formulated and NCF for other categories is underway. Amidst all these changes that are taking place in the education system challenges are bound to be encountered and they will be addressed and overcome. One of the challenges would be in the area of implementation and taking the NEP 2020 vision forward. This is a humungous task and definitely needs collective experience and expertise of innumerable number of educationists and leaders whose contribution would be valuable in bringing the vision of NEP 2020 to fruition. One such effort in this direction was by
Ikigai’Ken Foundation that has organized “Principal’s Conference 2023” on April 18, 2023, in Chennai.
The topic for the conference was “NEP 2020 – The Way Forward”. The conference explored the salient features, implementation challenges and way forward. The need for students to learn skills, student- centric and self- directed learning, doing away with rote learning, experiential and contextualising education, advocating multilingualism were among other features that were discussed.
The inaugural address at the conference was delivered by Dr Sharanya T Jaikumar, Child Psychologist, and also Advisor to Government on NEP implementation. The keynote address was by Dr Bhavanishankar, Director, Lalaji memorial Omega School with a wide panel of speakers led by Dr R Srinivasa Raghavan, Principal, Bala Vidya Mandir, Dr Bhanu Shankar, Governor, Beyond8, Ms Lalitha Ramanujan, Founder Director, Alpha to Omega school of Learning Difficulties, Mrs Shanthi Venkat, Principal, Surana High Tech International School and Mr Neti Srinivasan, Advisor, Ikigai’Ken Foundation. The event was attended by school leaders and educators.
